Biotesters
REF 3079 · Excluded from TGA regulation — ARTG inclusion not required.
Biotester Waterline Checks — detect bacterial contamination before it becomes a problem.
Purpose
Quick Microbial Count Indicator — bacteria presence indicator.
Key Features
- Designed for rapid microbial monitoring of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs).
- Provides a visual indication of bacterial contamination and helps assess whether the required water-quality level of <200 CFU/mL is being maintained.
- The nutrient agar supports the growth of viable microorganisms, allowing colonies to become visible for comparison and approximate microbial counting.
- Provides an easy visual representation of microbial load without specialised equipment.
- Ideal for routine quarterly water-quality monitoring as part of the dental practice's infection-control program.
- Screening tool only — provides an indicative microbial count and does not replace formal laboratory testing when laboratory analysis is required.

FAQ
common
questions.
What are Biotesters used for?
Biotesters are a bacteria presence indicator — a quick microbial count indicator designed for rapid microbial monitoring of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs). They provide a visual indication of bacterial contamination and help assess whether the required water-quality level of <200 CFU/mL is being maintained.
How do I use a Biotester?
Collect a water sample from the outlets to be monitored, immerse the dip slide for 10 seconds, return it to the tube and close tightly (do not pour water into the tube). Incubate at room temperature for at least 48 hours, preferably 3–5 days, then read against the reference chart. Full steps are in the downloadable Instructions for Use (IFU) PDF in Docs. What is a Biotester made of?
A plastic paddle coated with a nutrient agar (a culture medium) inside a sealed vial. The nutrient agar supports the growth of viable microorganisms so colonies become visible for comparison and approximate microbial counting. It contains no disinfectant or active chemistry.
How is Biotesters different from Alpron and Bilpron?
Alpron and Bilpron treat the water — Biotesters checks it. It is the documented monitoring step that closes the waterline protocol: it shows you whether your maintenance is working, but it does not clean or disinfect.
How often should I test?
Ideal for routine quarterly water-quality monitoring as part of the dental practice's infection-control program, and whenever you suspect a problem. Keep the results with your maintenance records. Each pack contains 10 dip slides (REF 3079).
