Across 164 units, Bilpron (Weekend System) + BRS outperformed peroxide, urea-peroxide and Alpron; Alpron reached <100 CFU/mL in 11/12 units after 2 weeks (post-BRS). Judged one of the best DUWL systems — when the protocol is followed.

In suction units with amalgam separators, AlproJet D disinfection produced mercury release comparable to a water-rinse control; disinfectants with oxidising agents significantly increased mercury release into wastewater.

A validated manual preparation process for dental turbines, handpieces and contra-angles using WL-clean (with WL-Cid and WL-Dry) met the protein-residue acceptance criteria of the validation guideline (DIN EN 15883-1).

In a static water-derived biofilm model, disinfectant concentration and composition influenced culturable bacteria; a shock dose followed by a low maintenance dose suppressed viable bacteria most. Alpron/Bilpron had a substantial effect, while Citrisil and ICX consistently failed to control biofilms.

Over six years, 68 dental units shock-treated with BRS then maintained with Alpron (working days) and Bilpron (idle periods) yielded 99.8% of 628 samples compliant with extended microbiological levels; Legionella sp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were never detected.

Spectrum & standards
Beyond the field studies, the Alpro chemistry is independently tested to recognised European standards (EN / RKI / DVV / VAH). The summary below is manufacturer / EU test data — not an Australian therapeutic claim. Confirm the on-label organisms and contact times in each product’s current Product Information.

Compliance
How this evidence supports AS 5369.
Findings are only useful at audit if they are organised and citable. The Compliance page maps the source-verified library to AS 5369 audit readiness, zone by zone — support, not certification.
1% additive — 10 mL Alpron to 990 mL water; one 1 L bottle makes 100 bottles of procedural water. Undiluted for a periodic decontamination.
Source: Alpron — Product Information (REF 3183)How long does Bilpron stay in the lines?
At least 12 hours (over a closure), and it can stay up to 3 months. Flush until clear on restart; don’t reuse.
Source: Bilpron — Product Information (REF 3181)What water-quality level should I aim for?
A widely cited international benchmark is the American Dental Association's ≤200 CFU/mL; check with a Biotester, and if counts rise, shock the lines with the BRS and re-test. Confirm the target that applies to your practice with your compliance adviser.

BRS PreCleaner is corrosive (gloves + eye protection) and BRS Remover 3 is an eye irritant. Bilpron and PlastiSept eco are not hazard-signalled.
